The Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Petrićevac is one of the most important Franciscan centers in Banja Luka and the Bosnian Krajina. Franciscans arrived in this region as early as the Middle Ages, but construction on the monastery at Petrićevac, on land known as Dudić, began at the end of the 19th century. The first building was erected in 1873, and the monastery was officially declared canonically established in 1885 with the blessing of Pope Leo XIII.

From its very beginning, the Franciscans of Petrićevac have been a vital support for the Catholic community and the wider population. Alongside their spiritual mission, they contributed to culture, education, and charity, leaving a lasting impact on architecture, schooling, and social care. A new church, built in the 1930s and designed by architect Katušić, featured works by Czech artists. With its towers, organ, and frescoes, it became a recognizable spiritual and cultural landmark.
Over the decades, the monastery and church were expanded, renovated, and modernized, but also damaged – by fire, earthquakes, and war. Despite all challenges, the Franciscan community always found the strength to rebuild and preserve their presence. The most recent church, designed by architect Ivan Straus, was solemnly consecrated in 2018.
Today, the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Petrićevac stands not only as a symbol of religious endurance, but also as a testament to the resilience of a community that preserved its identity through destruction and persecution. It remains a spiritual refuge and a treasured part of the cultural heritage of Banja Luka and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
